Note that there are no service obligations when participating in this organization.

Raleigh Battalion has openings available for young people who want to learn about our military and are ambitious, self-disciplined, physically motivated, and have strong academic performance.

Cadets must meet all eligibility requirements including application, parent/cadet interview, medical screening, and payment of required fees. United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC).

The Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) is for American youth ages 11-17 who have a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Sea Cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia. The objectives of the Sea Cadet program are to introduce youth to naval life, to develop in them a sense of pride, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance, and to maintain an environment free of drugs and gangs.   Refer to the National Sea Cadets website for more information.

We are located in Raleigh, North Carolina and our cadets come from multiple counties around the "Triangle area" of North Carolina. Cadets normally meet for drill one weekend per month throughout the calendar year. We generally meet at the Joint Forces HQ in Raleigh, but we also hold drills and special events at offsite locations. Cadets also have the opportunity to participate in special advanced trainings and boot camps around the country during the summer months and winter holidays. Typical drill times are 0800-1530.

This program is NOT for everyone.

Those who join thinking it's playing "dress-ups" in sailor suits, or join to lose weight, or join because they're forced into it by parents or others, generally don't stay long. For those who want to learn the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment, and about Navy or Coast Guard life, and want some discipline in their life, this is an excellent program.  Cadets are expected to care for themselves during the program, establishing goals and benchmarks to help them succeed in future endeavors, employment and opportunities.  This is not a weekend camp or child care service...

Education:  Applicants must be enrolled in school, either public or private, or a sanctioned home school program and have a satisfactory scholastic standing. Please include a copy of most recent report card.
Physical Examination:  A medical examination similar to a high school sports physical is required for all cadet applicants to the Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) or Navy League Cadet Corps (NLCC). No one will be denied admission to the NSCC/NLCC due to a medical disability. Where a medical condition precludes full, unlimited participation, a Request for Accommodation (NSCADM 015) may be presented by the parent or guardian for review so the cadet may participate in NSCC activities to the maximum extent possible.

Adult applicants must be in good health commensurate with their age group and be free from any ailment or condition that would prevent them from satisfactorily performing their primary duty of supervising youth.
NOTE: Adults not physically qualified to perform all duties may still participate with a waiver from NHQ considering the parameters of their expected contribution to the NSCC program.

Moral Character:  Applicants must possess good moral character, be unmarried, not pregnant, drug free and be free of felony conviction. Once a cadet has enrolled, a minimum 1-year enrollment is requested. In addition, cadets are required to attend a two-week boot camp during the summer or winter (one week for League Cadets). A cadet is asked to mark his calendar for the entire year so that personal activities can be scheduled around drills. Keep in mind that there are an average of 12-14 drills per year. Cadets must attend 75% of all scheduled drills.
